Very Newsworthy Items!

Alas, the year is indeed drawing to a close, and here at Scubadive West we are dreaming of mince pies, log fires and innumerate “Santie” presents. Following a hectic, yet thoroughly rewarding season we will be taking some time to recharge our batteries. So the centre will be closed from 21st December until 24th January. During this time we will be periodically checking messages so you will get a response from us, although possibly not an immediate one.

However, this rest and recuperation does have its benefits, and we have planned a hectic introduction to 2008 diving!
All course dates and details are available on our calendar page, but here is an overview of the highlights.

PADI’s Underwater Digital Photography specialty represents the holy grail for all aspiring underwater photographers. Scubadive West is delighted to offer this specialty on an ongoing basis throughout 2008; with the first course taking place on 9th/10th February.

Night diving is a popular winter diving activity, and an excellent way to stay in fine seafaring fettle. Book yourself a spot on our boat night diving on either the 22nd or 29th February. Both are Friday evenings so it also gives you a great excuse to escape to Connemara for the weekend! Previous night diving experience in Irish waters is essential.

The ever popular Streamstown Drift Dive will continue monthly throughout the Spring. For the planners amongst you, pencil in 7th April! Why? Spring equinox, which means huge tides, which means a monster drift!

For those amongst you looking to enter the professional echelons of PADI diving the Divemaster course is your first step. As time can often be a deciding factor in commencing the Divemaster course, we are running an Intensive 10 day course option from March 1st through March 10th. Exemplary diving skills will be prerequisite for anyone considering this option. Contact us today for more information.

All details of Scubadive West diving activities are available on our calendar page.

Happy splashing!

Ok, even the eternal optimist cannot deny the added winter chill in the air! However as winter rolls on so too does Scubadive West’s diving schedule.

Last weekend (10th/11th November) saw a Drysuit and Search & Recovery Specialty completed; and heralded the beginning of the 3 week Night Diver Specialty. Having spent the entire weekend submerged in the cove, I can report good visibility despite last week’s winds. Indeed, all our boat divers commented on the excellent visibility around our favourite dive sites.

Next weekend (17th/18th November) is again jam packed with PADI Specialty courses. We are running a Drysuit Specialty on both Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th and an Enriched Air/Nitrox Specialty on Sunday 18th November. Call us today to book your place and we will immediately post out your required manuals.

Don’t forget our Streamstown Drift Dive on November 24th. This will be the last one of 2007 so secure your adrenaline fix for the festive season ahead.

Happy Diving

Streamstown Drift Dive Does it Again…

Preparations for the Dive

Epic, unforgettable, crazy….just some of the descriptions attached to last week’s drift dive in Streamstown Bay. The clever clogs that we are here in Scubadive West (well we like to think so anyway), we decided to hit this monster drift on Spring tide time. The result? A drift dive of universal proportions, destined to catapult you from zero to hero; in the same time it takes the misfortunate office-bound to walk from their dreary desk to next door’s coffee shop, in a bid to beat the 4pm slump. Fortunately, those privileged to take part in last week’s drift can comfortably live off the adrenaline generated for at least a month - thankfully our next Drift Dive is on Saturday 24th November. So beat the office blues, conquer the traffic jam mayhem and proclaim yourself master of your own destiny with the Streamstown Drift Dive.

In the meantime, check out some photos from last week’s  dive on the Gallery Section of our website.
