If January was a month of Mondays, then February is a month of Sundays. Springtime is truly on the horizon and Mother Nature is taking tentative steps towards reestablishing some order. Even she had to sleep off her Christmas hangover! While the earlier part of January will be forever remembered for rather extreme climate curveballs, the past two weeks brought with them settled conditions. Those of you who braved the less than balmy water temperatures were rewarded with memorable diving. However, we are all looking forward to waving winter off and are rolling out the red carpet for its more obedient cousin, spring.

Sunday 31st, the Dive Flag waves bye to January
Our diving schedule goes up a gear in February and includes 2010′s debut Streamstown Drift Dive, a selection box (well, Christmas is still somewhat dear to my heart) of diving courses and an active boat schedule.

We even decided to give our website www.scubadivewest.com a makeover, and hope you like what you see.
All aboard for Scubadive West’s ‘Boat Night Dive’ on Saturday 6th March. We will offer an additional boat dive on this date, taking place from our boats and departing the dive centre just after sunset. The boat will visit one of our popular local dive sites, where divers will be treated to the after-dark marine show. Night vision goggles optional! Previous night diving experience is required.

Vroom, vroom…
We have all been on the new Dublin-Galway motorway in recent weeks. This road wizardry really shaves time off the journey to Connemara, and makes early Saturday morning travel a real possibility.

Golden sunshine, crystal blue waters and smiling faces. Not a description from a holiday brochure, but an accurate nod to Connemara today. Our first day of diving has been nothing short of spectacular. Doonee Beacon afforded visibility of up to eight metres, while the now world-famous Julia T offered pristine winter diving conditions.

First Divers of 2010
Scubadive West is open for 2010 and really looking to a great year of diving.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Maol Reidh in the Background on Saturday
The dive centre was awoken today from its winter hibernation. Windows were flung wide open to allow in a stream of glorious sunshine, the ‘Marlin’ is being coaxed back into the water and all of us here are looking forward to another great year of diving.
The year has started well for Scubadive West, with the Julia-T being named as one of the ’100 Essential Wreck Dives’ in the Ultimate Dive Destinations magazine. This is an annual publication, highlighting exciting wreck dives around the globe. The Julia-T is perfect for underwater photographers and marine life enthusiasts, as it positively groans under the weight of colourful plumose anenomes and pulsates with fish, both large and small.

The Wreck of the Julia-T
We dive the Julia-T throughout the year, and look forward to seeing you there!
