Last weekend saw Scubadive West’s first Tec 40 course take place.
Cillian Gray, PADI Course Director and Tec Instructor, headed up the course. The three students arrived at lunchtime on Friday and proceeded to set up their technical dive gear. A check dive that evening ensured everyone was diving correctly weighted and was comfortable with the equipment. Saturday’s two dives took place in our private training cove. Skills included valve shutdowns, NOTOX switches, delayed SMB use and advanced buoyancy. Sunday’s two dives took place off the boat. The first dive was a simulated decompression dive on the Julia T. Second dive of the day was a real decompression dive to a depth of 40 metres at Inis Barna. Of course, there was some classroom time in between the dives. We can happily report that the theory element of the PADI Tec 40 course is very manageable. Congratulations to Kris Finlay, Mick Russell and Francis Stockwell.
