2012 will be the year the European Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is due for reform. The primary purpose of the reformed CFP must be to secure environmentally and socially sustainable fisheries in Community waters and wherever else EU fleets are active. If this is not the case, our oceans are facing a very bleak future. Currently our oceans are being overfished, with modern fishing technology outpacing the ocean’s ability to adapt. So fish stocks are being depleted far quicker than they are being replenished. This needs to stop. Fishing quotas must be set by scientists rather than politicians, with sustainability being key for all. Below is a link to an online petition, aimed at ensuring a radical overall of the Common Fisheries Policy. Show your support for the future of our oceans, and share this link with as many people as possible.
